Lego Tower World Record
By Rudy Jatnieks '24
The tallest tower built from LEGO bricks was built in Hungary in 2014. This marvelous structure was built at 114 feet entirely out of tiny, inch-sized lego bricks! However, accomplishing such a feat requires sufficient planning. A major factor when building tall is instability due to wind. A structure so tall that is held together by LEGO bricks is prone to collapsing, so engineers applied cables to the tower, similar to that of a radio mast. The reason cables are required is because a minor shift of the tower will thus shift the center of gravity outside the base of the tower, causing it to collapse. These cables use tension in all directions to prevent the tower from swaying, thus preventing a collapse.
