Goodbye Westtown
Song by the GS Boys Varsity Soccer Team starring Bill Becker '22, video by Forest Ho-Chen '22
“Goodbye Westtown” is a remake of “Hey Jude” by The Beatles. It takes the ending and replaces the lyrics with “Wehhhhh, ehhhh, ehhhh, estoown! Wehh est townnn, goodbye!” The melody is also changed to include more slides, thirds, and variations. According to the songwriter, Bill Becker, “The song is designed to be sung in celebration after beating Westtown in any athletic competition, and thereby demonstrates George School's superiority over our biggest rival. The song can be modified for any school that we beat, so long as the syllables and rhythmic timing remain the same (for example, the lyrics can read ‘Haaaaaaa, aaaaaa, aaaaa, aaveerford! Haaaaa aaaa veerford, goodbye!’).” “Platonic Love Song” and “Goodbye Westtown” show the uniqueness of the Boys' soccer music culture and how it can also apply to other parts of George School life.
