Plant Club

GS plant club

GS plant club mainly cultivated vegetables (beans, tomatoes and mushrooms, e.g.) and flowers. The club gathers at the Energy Center which was built in the 18th century. At that time, the head of the science department worked with a bunch of students and they contributed to building the center. After a long time, the center has not been properly maintained.

Plant club utilizes the Earth Box in order to better geminate and protect the seedlings. The Earth Box serves as an automated watering system. There are several components of the box: the soil and the water reservoir. The reservoir holds the water and stores it for need. There is a hollow space in between the growth media and the water reservoir, which allows oxygen to access the root of the plant. The function acts like a wicking system, saturating the soil with water from the root of the plants. This watering system prevents the water from spraying the flowers on top, which protects the seedlings. For example, lavender has a thin stem which could be easily damaged through the spraying on the top.

It is very hot and humid inside of the energy center, so there has to be manual control in order to protect the plant from the extreme weather. The system maintains an ideal environment for the plants to sustain and could last for a long time. It also makes the planting more efficient, whereas there is no need for gardeners to constantly stay around the garden to maintain the ideal conditions, such as humidity and temperature.
