Week Three

Week Three of the Philly Varsity Math League:

In the third week of the Varsity Math League, defending champions and current leaders George School start their attempt of the Friends League title defense as they take on Abington Friends. George School will take on two other schools in the Friends League, Shipley and Westtown later in the season. Of course, in addition to the Friends League, the Philly League also contains many schools from the Inter-Academic League. We currently have one confirmed Inter-AC match: Agnes Irwin vs Penn Charter. (Fun fact: The original MATES spoke about Varsity Math like it was soccer. Guess what Inter-AC soccer match is supposed to happen? CLEARLY, this was planned, nah, not really. Unfortunately, the FSL one is about two weeks later...). This is also the Match of the Week. Meanwhile, between the two leagues, Episcopal Academy will face Westtown, a rematch from the 2021 Varsity Tournament. Additionally, The Hill School faces Baldwin, and Shipley faces Haverford. According to the Haverford Index, this match didn't happen at the Varsity Tournament last year, so I won't talk about that match that clearly happened.

Meanwhile, George School is playing in Math Madness starting this week, with a non-league match against St. Mark's School of Texas.

The picture above was taken outside of the Quad, which contains three college houses at UPenn.

Requested by George School: CONGRATULATIONS to the George School Varsity Math Team on their FIRST NORMAL TYPE SHUTOUT SINCE 2020 (excluding the Varsity Tournament)!!! George School has not gotten a perfect score in the regular season since winning 35-15/35 in the 2020 Philly League. Additionally, GS got six perfect scores, which has only happened once before in the Philly League (winning 35-24/35 in 2019). Also, SHOUT OUT TO TED XIA FOR HIS PERFORMANCES ON GSVMT SO FAR THIS YEAR!!! Note RISING STAR super soph Kevin Gong!

Requested by Penn Charter: While Jack and Harrison each made a careless mistake to ruin getting 8's, they both did well again. Shout out to junior boys Vikram Verma and Marko Vucetic for each getting 4's.

George School again: We were distracted by the accidental software event (students could not discern if they got an answer right or not)
