Week Four of the Philly Varsity Math League:
In the fourth week of the Varsity Math League, defending champions and current leaders George School are in a tough situation. Following their first shutout since 2020, GSVMT had their first loss 34-33/40 in Math Madness, probably as sad as a certain match that you will hear about in two weeks. Now, in the Match of the Week, number one ranked George School (3-1) looks to CLAP BACK and pull the biggest upset in GSVMT history against undefeated and number two ranked The Hill School (3-0) in a rematch of last year's finals, where George School's 30-19 win led them to win their third championship. (As on October 9th, these rankings are now official.)
In other news, there were some very good results last week, and we hope that they continue into the rest of the season. Agnes Irwin faces another Inter AC opponent, this time, Episcopal Academy. And guess what? EA is facing Agnes Irwin in soccer this week. How does this keep happening? Unfortunately, I don't think this can happen next week. Meanwhile, Abington Friends will face Penn Charter and Shipley tries to reclaim the Friends League Title by facing Germantown Friends.
Meanwhile, George School is playing in Math Madness against Troy Athens High School.
The picture above (this image is downloaded from The Daily Pennsylvanian, Penn's student newspaper) is of Hill College House. I think you can all guess why I chose this picture.

Shoutouts:
Disclaimer: Some information here comes from the team captains, not the coaches. MATES in Philly will consider this information to be official unless proven otherwise. Additionally, Math Madness scores are automatically considered official.
Requested by Penn Charter: Very impressed with freshman Alice Allsopp whose team had 6 correct!
Requested by SCHA: Ward Dobeck for consistently leading the team in points!
Haverford's "Perspective": https://thsindex.org/2022/10/15/the-archimedes-association-feels-confident-eyes-ea/ Note: George School vs Haverford happened at the beginning of the season and never happened during the varsity tournament. In fact, Haverford beat GS last year. During the Varsity Tournament, Haverford lost to Shipley, and I don't think Shipley had three times as many people as Haverford. Shipley then lost to George School. Also, you know what else? When Haverford and GS were "put against each other" in an individual round, which doesn't count towards the team records, Haverford won again. So this article is wrong. This is why we have MATES in Philly to avoid the confusion.
