Week Five of the Philly Varsity Math League:
Hello everyone, welcome back to week seven of Calculus Blue with Professor Ghri- sorry, wrong discussion. Welcome back to week five of Varsity Math. Due to a shortage of week 4 results, I'll just get right into the week five matches. Penn Charter and Episcopal Academy face off in an Inter AC matchup, testing a very controversial theory by EA brought up during last year's varsity tournament (we don't agree with the theory), and George School tries to clap back from an expected loss to Hill by facing one of the teams with a winning record over them, Springside Chestnut Hill Academy, in a revenge match. GS failed to pull the upset last time, and this time would be even more of an upset. Additionally, The Hill School looks to continue their slaughter against the Friends League by taking on Abington Friends. Shipley faces the school that's like right across the street, Baldwin.
Also, this is the first week in the Philly League where 35 is the max score. Keep that in mind when looking through the results.
Meanwhile, George School is playing in Math Madness again. They are against Stanford University Online HS. If GS had beaten Hill, then we would have called that the biggest upset in GSVMT history, but now there's this match. Also, this is CONFIRMED to be the first ranked round.
This week's picture is from last year's varsity tournament. According to the Haverford Index, "The group’s third-place finish came after their only loss: a tie-breaker against George School, who went on to win the event." and “Both our team and George School got every question right, but George School did it quicker because they had three times as many people working on it. So that was a frustrating loss,” Kelly said. Something doesn't quite seem right about that. I think they meant Shipley.

George School vs Shipley vs Proof School: Hey, wait a minute! Why is this here? It turns out that these three teams seem to be fighting it out to see who has the best MEME NAMES!!! In my personal opinion, it goes as follows: 1. Proof School, 2. Shipley, 3. George School. No, this doesn't count towards records.

Requested by PC: Shoutout to Ellie Choate for coming to her first competition and getting the second highest score!

Note about Math Madness: MATES in Philly is currently holding two teams under review: St. Mark's School of Texas and Mount Paran Christian School. We have suspicions due to the average time per question of multiple students being the same and not being 3:44 (which would imply that they all got the question within the last few seconds, which is believable). Until resolved, we are going to remove one loss from George School's record. Also, literally as I was writing this, we're adding Helix Charter High School (led by Nathan Christiana) to the watch list. Anyway, this is the same situation that we had with Rockford Christian, Crespi Carmalite, and Lick Wilmerding last year where it appears that multiple students' scores are increasing at the same time. This was confirmed last year with Rockford Christian, leading to George School getting a win by forfeit. As a result, George School's record will be 6-1.
Hi, I'm back like two hours later. Rock Canyon High School is added to this list. I've seen some really good Varsity Math players, but six seconds per question? No. Same reason why GS vs Westtown at the varsity tournament first round is ruled as a GS win.
Hi, I'm back even later. Burlingame High School has also been added to the list.
