Week Five of the Philly Varsity Math League:

As we hit the midway point of the Philly Varsity Math League (PMVL), Week 5 marks a crucial juncture for many teams looking to cement their place in the standings. With multiple intense matchups on the schedule, including several key rivalries, teams must deliver under pressure to maintain their playoff hopes. As always, the competition is fierce, and every point could make the difference between making a playoff run or falling short.

In this week’s Matches of the Week, League 1 features a thrilling contest between the SCHA Blue Devils and the Shipley Gators, both teams looking to prove themselves after shaky performances last week. Meanwhile, in League 2, the Masterman Blue Dragons (1-3) face off against the Baldwin Bears as both squads aim for a much-needed win. With the Churchmen enjoying a bye week, the battle for individual supremacy will intensify as other standout players from around the league look to climb the rankings.

In League 1, the spotlight is on two teams seeking to reverse their fortunes. The Blue Devils, currently sitting at 3-1, will try to bounce back after their first loss of the season in Week 4, while the Gators look to bounce back from a tough loss last week and get revenge from round 4 of the last Varsity Tournament.

With David Ding and the Churchmen on a bye week, other top players have a chance to shake up the standings in League 1. Jackson Yang from the Cougars and Rohan Dalal from the Churchmen will look to close the gap at the top. Yang’s performance in the Moose matchup will be especially crucial, as a standout game and especially a win against the FSL favorites could propel him closer to the top spot. Additionally, Anqi Wang and Kai Xu of the Moose are hoping to break into the top 5 with strong performances this week.

Meanwhile, in League 2, the Penn Charter Quakers and the Agnes Irwin Owls face off in a match that could determine our Inter AC League 2 champion.

League 1: Gators vs Blue Devils. Gators get their revenge in an 18-10 win.

League 2: Blue Dragons vs Bears. Blue Dragons win in a 13-0 shutout.

Other matches:

Phoenix vs Rams. Rams dominate and win 30-8.

Tigers vs Fords

Quakers vs Owls. Quakers win 19-12 and remain undefeated, solidifying their spot as the top team in the Inter AC.

Moose vs Cougars

Non League:

Cougars vs Darlington. Cougars narrowly win 31-30.

Churchmen
